SDPI Diabetes Prevent Program (DPP)
Diabetes is a serious problem for American Indians and Alaskan Natives (AI/AN). Research shows that you can decrease your risk of getting diabetes through modest lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity and a little weight loss. The Healthy Traditions Department offers the Diabetes Prevention Program for individuals who qualify.
Participants in the DPP project learn how to make changes in lifestyle behaviors such as increased physical acitivty and healthier food choices (lower fat and fewer calories).
The DPP Classes are presented in a group setting with a proven curriculum of 16 sessions.
Individual coaching and support:
The DPP Staff meets seperately with participants once a month to discuss how things are going and to help participants indvidualize their program to meet their personal needs.
